💬 PROMPT DEEP-DIVE - PICKING A WEDGE
Scenario: You’re hearing from investors / stakeholders that you need “a wedge”, to narrow your product focus and your GTM. You want to use ChatGPT kickstart your thinking.
“Imagine you're a VC who's seen my idea-stage pitch deck. You've suggested I need a wedge, to make sure we're not a blunt instrument trying to chop into a market by being everything for everyone, but instead a sharp blade with an extraordinary focus on a specific persona/use case to start. You've recommended this because the market we were targeting, vegan food delivery, has entrenched competitors and is crowded.
A wedge is simply a strategy to win a large market by initially capturing (1) a tiny part of a larger market or (2) a large part of a small adjacent market.
An example of a wedge is Square; their wedge is enabling small offline retailers to accept debit and credit cards, whereas the larger market is SMB finance.
