Use ChatGPT to design workshops

PLUS: Notion AI is a PM's dream come true

Hey there 👋

Today, let’s talk about:

  • How product managers can make the most of Notion AI

  • Using ChatGPT to design workshops

  • How adding AI into your app just got 10x easier

  • Save hours creating your slide decks

💬 Prompt use case - Designing workshops

Done well, workshops fundamentally change the way collaborative work is done. They take out the unstructured discussion and replace it with streamlined processes that help teams do their best work. Groupthink and talking over each other in circles are replaced by structured discussion and uninterrupted ideation. Workshop design and facilitation is IMO one of the most underrated workplace skills.

The good news is ChatGPT can help you with the tricky part of putting all the right exercises together, so that you get the most out of your time.

For the example here, I’ve used OpenAI’s Playground as (despite subscribing to ChatGPT Plus), ChatGPT was at capacity.

Design a workshop, using the methods recommended by AJ Smart, for a group of 6 people to agree their product strategy. You can allow up to a whole day for the workshop. The broad shape of the workshop should use the 4 Cs framework - Collect, Choose, Create, Commit.

Use Design Sprint style exercises such as "note and vote" sessions and the principles of working "together, alone".

🛠️ Cool new tools

Decktopus AI - Slide Design
AI-powered presentation builder which is easy-to-use, intuitive, and packed with features like slide layouts and interactive forms. Best part - it’s free.

How they’re using AI:

  • Image & icon suggestions

  • Tailored slide notes for your topic and audience

  • Gives you talking point suggestions

Tome - Slide Design
Now valued at $300 million while still pre-revenue, Tome says it’s the fastest productivity software maker to ever reach 1 million users since its September release. Crikey.

🤖 Now with added AI

Notion AI - beloved by product teams and freelancers everywhere, Notion has now rolled out built-in AI features to everyone. I’ve been using it for a while and it’s definitely useful as a “thought partner”, especially to improve text you‘ve already written. It’s using OpenAI’s GPT-3 model (while ChatGPT uses 3.5), so if you’ve used OpenAI’s Playground before, the output style is the same, but obviously with Notion’s own prompts behind it.

✅ Top pro vs ChatGPT: no need to copy paste responses from one page to another.

❌ Top con vs ChatGPT: it’s only available for specific use cases, and you can’t follow-up with prompts to refine the output.

Some of the innovation use cases I’ve found it pretty handy for include:

  • Analyse market competition by comparing competitor products with their own. Notion AI can generate a pros and cons list or a SWOT analysis for each product based on web research or user feedback.

  • Conduct market research in line with customer needs and wants. Generate a survey questionnaire or a user interview script based on the product goals and target audience.

  • Plan products for the product management team to deliver and strategise to create an effective roadmap. You can generate a product vision statement, a product backlog, or a roadmap outline based on the product scope and priorities.

  • Work with outside parties to determine licensing opportunities or product partnerships. So, generate a sales email, a press release, or a partnership proposal based on the product value proposition and benefits.

👀 Look out for Sunday’s AI Audit.

AI Audit - an analysis of AI growth opportunities for a well-known product.

Each week, in addition to the weekday newsletter like this one, I’ll put myself in the shoes of a product team, ideate the generative AI opportunities and prioritise what I think would add the most value to the customers. Should be fun!

Thanks, and happy prompting,

Martin
